Information About Contact LensesWe are especially proud of our contact lens selection as well as our abilities to fit all types of contact lenses available. We specialize in difficult contact lens fits. Don't get us wrong: We welcome easy fits too! However, we are experts in fitting difficult cases and in fitting the various types of gas permeable contact lenses that are available today. These lenses are much more difficult to fit and require lots of experience. We have been fitting gas permeable lenses for over thirty years. Gas permeable lenses require more experience because: 1. The doctor must be able to modify the lenses in the office to achieve the best results. If lenses need to be sent back to the lab for modifications this can be time consuming and difficult for the patient. 2. Being able to modify the lenses on the premises makes it possible for the doctor to achieve a custom fit. 3. Modifying lenses on the premises makes it possible to make the lens edges as thin as possible to achieve maximum comfort. 4. In house polishing of the lenses makes it possible to resurface the lenses as they age and to increase their useful life span. We are also experts in fitting lenses for irregular corneas and for astigmatism correction. We specialize in lenses for keratoconus. We also fit lenses for corneal molding or "Orthokeratology". These are special lenses that are worn at night that reshape the cornea so that when removed in the morning the patient frequently does not need to use any eyeglasses or contact lenses during the day. We have the ability to fit contact lenses on corneas that have been surgically altered after corneal transplant surgery. The lenses needed to address this problem are specialty lenses and come in a variety of shapes and sizes. We also fit custom soft colored cosmetic/special effect lenses as well as bifocal and multifocal designs. We are your one stop location for all of your contact lens needs. We have fit patients in all age groups from young children to adults. Contact Lenses for Children: Parents often ask us if contact lenses are appropriate for children. The answer is "Yes!". Contact lenses can be successfully fit to children of all ages.....even infants. When children are very young the parents need to be fully involved in the day to day care and handling of the contact lenses. As children age they can more fully participate in the contact lens care. Most prescriptions can be made in contact lenses. This can be great for general wear as well as sports. There is even some new research that shows that certain types of contact lenses can slow down the development of myopia. This can be especially useful in children in which there is a family history of myopia. |
