Cataracts
Understand how a cloudy lens can change your vision and what an examination can reveal.
What is a cataract?
A cataract is a clouding of the eye’s natural lens. Normally, the lens helps focus light on the retina. When it becomes cloudy, vision may become blurred or distorted, and glare or difficulty seeing in poor lighting can develop.
Changes in everyday vision
Cataracts can make activities such as reading, computer work and driving more difficult. An eye examination helps assess the lens and determine how it is affecting your sight.
Discussing treatment
Cataract surgery removes the cloudy natural lens and usually replaces it with an artificial intraocular lens. Our doctors can discuss your examination findings and the next steps in evaluating surgery.
