Keratoconus

Specialty vision care for a cornea whose shape has become irregular.

Understanding the cornea

In keratoconus, the cornea becomes thinner and bulges forward into a cone-like shape. This irregularity distorts light as it enters the eye and can cause blurred vision. The condition may affect one or both eyes.

Specialty contact lens options

As the cornea becomes more irregular, standard glasses and soft lenses may no longer provide adequate vision. Options can include rigid gas-permeable, scleral, hybrid or custom soft lenses. Detailed fitting and follow-up visits help refine the design.

Care beyond the prescription

Corneal cross-linking and other surgical options may be considered by the treating eye-care team. Village Eyes offers specialty contact lens evaluations for patients with irregular corneas.
