Macular degeneration
Understanding changes in the part of the retina responsible for central vision.
What is AMD?
Age-related macular degeneration affects the macula, the part of the retina responsible for sharp, straight-ahead vision. Changes in central vision can make reading, recognizing faces and other detailed tasks more difficult.
Dry and wet forms
Dry AMD involves thinning and other changes in the macula and often progresses slowly. Wet AMD involves abnormal blood vessels and can lead to faster changes in vision.
Monitoring your eye health
Early changes may not be obvious. An eye examination helps evaluate the retina and determine the appropriate monitoring or referral for your findings.
