Ocular rosacea

Symptoms and findings

Ocular rosacea can cause red, itchy, burning or gritty eyes and swollen eyelids. Light sensitivity, watering, blurred vision and recurring styes can also occur.

A closer examination

A slit-lamp examination can reveal small inflamed blood vessels along the eyelid margin and other signs that help inform the diagnosis.

Treatment protocols depend on the examination findings. Intense pulsed light (IPL) is one option our dry-eye clinic may consider when appropriate.
