Red eyes and conjunctivitis
Redness has many possible causes. A careful examination helps identify the right approach.
What is conjunctivitis?
Conjunctivitis describes inflammation or infection of the clear membrane over the white of the eye. Dilated blood vessels make the eye appear red or pink.
Different causes need different care
Redness can be related to infection, allergies, dryness, contact lens wear or environmental irritation. Other eye conditions can also cause redness. A complete history and examination are important because treatment depends on the cause.
Contact your eye doctor
If your eyes are red and uncomfortable, contact Village Eyes for an evaluation. Until the cause is known, avoid touching your eyes, wash your hands frequently, use your own towels and avoid eye makeup.
