Here's a good example of a meibomian gland expression that was performed on someone with evaporative dry eye disease. This particular expression was following IPL.

Sometimes it’s just one blocked gland! Here’s an example of a patient who was complaining of irritation to one small area on his lid. After performing an exam we found that he was beginning to develop a stye in his lid. We performed Mibo Thermoflo on the area followed by a little pressure and we managed to express the contents! Bye-bye stye!!!

This juicy expression was following a session on our Mibo Thermoflo device. The patient was a long term dry-eye sufferer and this was his first expression. These expressions help release oil that has thickened and blocked up the meibomian glands. Following a series of treatments we can restore the oil to a much more liquified state... which ultimately helps patients with their dry eye symptoms. After four treatments his eyes felt sooooo much better!

Sometimes patients think that they have “dry eye” but what they really have is a build-up of dead skin and oil named blepharitis. This particular patient had a nasty build-up of blepharitis from a species of mite known as demodex. These mites are actually present on everyone but for some reason certain people are more likely than others to develop an infestation.
